This year I was nominated by faculty at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) to the school's visiting artist program, which included a solo exhibition at NSCAD’s Anna Leonowans Gallery in Halifax.
It was very exciting for me to return to Halifax and to meet with several of my former professors and peers from grad school days. If you haven't been to Halifax, it is a beautiful city.
I was also very excited to have the chance to create an entirely new body of work to exhibit as a collection. Titled "Embodiments: Garments of Clay," the work was in some ways a departure for me -- most obviously, the large scale.
Translating decorative themes that I have employed on functional objects to the larger scale of the work, the sculptural/non-functional character of the pieces, and having visual control over the entire gallery environment was a deeply satisfying experience. (I'll tell you about my van breaking down later!) I plan to present a more complete documentation of the entire experience down the road, but for now here are a few pics from the show.
